LOS ANGELES: Florida Film Makers Program Event by GARTEL

I was asked by the Governor's Office of Film and Entertainment Commissioner to create a one hour presentation on the movies created by Florida Film Schools. While I thought it wasn't exactly the right thing to "mess with" other people's content, I decided to create an opening piece for the entire presentation, and then create an artful intermix between the different schools. I thought it was best to keep the integrity of what other film makers have done. Yes, ..I am sure it was a great surprise, because today's world is all about re-cycling, re-processing, re-sampling, re-mixing, etc. etc. I have always been a believer in the purity of one's own work and personal statements. If you are going to take someone else's art, you probably dont have much to say yourself, and thus lack the necessary imagination. Broadway re-purposes old productions for new audiences all the time. I suppose Disney releases their classics too, as new kids are born every day.

However, a re-mix of anything usually does not measure up to the original score. Originality takes vision and more over guts. Its easy to copy. The true artists who inherit the earth are usually those risk takers that have future vision.
